Lightning Protection

Nothing is lightning proof, just ask your local rural electric company.  However, there are steps we can take to try to get the lightning into the ground prior to “frying” your energizer.  We highly recommend installing lightning protection within your electric fence system.

Your livestock isn’t the only threat to your fence!  Invest in lightning protection to ensure a long-lived system.  Click HERE to learn more about Grounding Your Energizer.

Both of the above lightning protection kits will require additional grounding rods.  It is recommended that you install one more ground rod for your lightning protection than you have for your energizer grounding.  For example, if you have three ground rods at the energizer, then you should put in four at your lightning ground field.

We also recommend that you install a surge protector on the power side of the energizer.  We do not carry them at this time, but they should be available at most hardware stores.
