The "Mule"

Fiberglass Corner System for Electric Fencing

We consider "The Mule Fiberglass corner or end system" to be the ultimate corner for electric fencing. It is strong, attractive, easy to install, non-conductive, non-corrosive and will last a very-very long time with no attentiion or maintenance. And the icing on this cake is that you do not have to dig a hole to install it. The Mule is most commonly used on equine fencing projects, but it can also be used with regular 12.5 hi-tensile wire or our hi-tensile woven wire.

The best way for me to show you the benefits of this system in print form is to show you....so I am going to post a lot of pictures of the system...please follow me down this page.

The Mule System is extremely easy to install. The fiberglass members are approximately 2" diameter with about a 1/4" wall thickness. They are very stout. Everything is pre-drilled and ready to put together. You just follow the simple steps above. The vertical corner post is also pre-drilled with 2" on center hole spacings, so you can use a 12.5 gauge "U clip to attach your wire to the corner. The hardware pack includes bushings that slide inside the bottoms of the vertical and angle braces - then attach to the auger. The angle braces attach to the vertical posts via galvanized clamps that secure in place. So, this corner can very easily be installed on hill sides or uneven terrain.

Shown above is a view of the posts mounted on the augers.

For a horse fence, the bottom wire (or rope product) should be installed a minimum of 18" above the ground. Many equine hock & foot accidents occurr where wires are too close to the ground. This corner system is one of the safest ones available for your equine friends. There is virtually no way a horse can get hurt on this corner.

The photos above and the next 3 below are of a horse fence that David and I built several years ago using Mule Corners & Ends with our PowerFlex Posts. Note that the White 1-5/8" X 72" PowerflexPosts look great together and compliment each other. Its like a good marriage. The wire in the pics is our 1/4" Braided rope. This system looks as good today as it did the day it was put up. The upper photo shows using a corner as a transition to segment along a curved driveway.

Note the horse head shaped insulators. Although it is not neccessary to use insulators on either the Fiberglass Mules or the PowerFlex Posts -- in this case the customer loved the look of the horse head insulators on this horse fence. I think they look cool too !

PowerFlex Posts and Mule Corners - pictured above is a corner and below is a simple gateway, using a Mule end. The gateway material is electrified rope with standard gate handles. You could also add a gate brace and hang a conventional gate here. There are a  lot of options when using Mule Corners & Ends.

Above is a very economical gate way for horses using Mule Ends.

Above and below are photos of installing our hi-tensile woven wire using Mule Ends. David just recently put this one up on his farm for hair sheep. The upper photo shows the bar clamp and Hayes chain grab tensioners attached to the Mule End. The woven wire tension was applied using these tools. He then used Medium Gripples and a Gripple tensioning tool to take the slack out of the distance between the stretcher bar clamp and the end post. The Bar Clamp was then removed and the finished fence is shown in the lower photo. With the Gripples on line, there is always the option to retention should you need to.  Also, you may notice a lot of "skuffs" on the fiberglass finish on the Mule end....this will invariably happen by the time you get all your wires attached, especially with woven wire. But, they will wipe down clean with a little Armor-all. The Mules handle the tension of the woven wire extremely well. and makes a nice looking fence. He used White 1-1/4" x 60" PowerFlex Posts as line posts.  The woven wire is our 7-36-24. A tree could fall on this fence with virtually no damage what-so-ever !

Pictured above is a Mule System  for Bison.

Now thats a nice looking Corner !

These corners are available in both 4' & 5' heights, however we only stock the 4 foot ones. We have used some 5' tall corners for draft horse projects. There are also many options for components to use with these corners, please call us for more information and pricing for options.

Prices (FOB)

Item # A4C (corner, 2 braces)     $ 158.00

Item A4E (end with 1 brace)           $ 125.00

Prices include all hardware packages and 1 auger per post/brace

We just had some fabricated steel corners (with thick sidewalls) made for a project and they cost over $125 for a corner. Plus we had to dig 3 holes and needed special equipment to put them in.........so, even though the price of a Mule corner may appear kinda pricey, it really isnt considering that it is non-conductive and you do not need to dig holes to install it !  We feel they are well worth the price !
