EZ Ends

EZ Ends will work for both permanent and portable fencing needs. They are manufactured with 7/8" fiberglass post and braces so are an insulated end or corner, requiring no insulators. They are anchored to the ground with your choice of 4" earth auger or rock anchor.  If you have good soils, then the auger is the best choice, but if you have hard or rocky ground then a rock anchor works quite well. If using the auger, you can use a 11/16" socket on a 3/4" drive to turn them in. The EZ end above is mounted with a rock anchor. Two hi-tensile wires are used in the photo above, but you could install up to 5 on this 4' post. And, most importantly - without digging a hole ! They can also be moved quite easily.

The steel angle bottom brace will swing either way so can be used on unlevel ground, as an end, corner or a 3 way junction. Lots of flexibilty in function ! The U Clamps that connect the braces to the vertical post are adjustable with lock nuts, so the braces can adjust to fit the land. These are very easy to install. The EZ End was developed and patented by Willy Killmer.

Note: I just put some of these (in the photos) up on a rent farm as a temporary fence until the bulldozer can clean out the old neglected perimeter fence lines. Although I have been familiar with these for a long time, I had not actually used them much. I put up 6 of the EZ ends on this project (with rock anchors) for a temporary solution. However after working with them I may consider them more often for permanent fence and definitely for cross fences. You may also notice some fiberglass posts in the photos. I will write more about them (and the benefits they offer) at the bottom of this page.

The more I use EZ Ends the more I like them. Although, I don't consider myself a lazy person --  if I can put up a corner without digging a hole or getting out any special equipment the better I like it. And with the EZ End I get an INSULATED CORNER !

The very top picture shows the EZ End being used as an End.  This photo above shows it being used as a corner. The difference is simply how you spread the bases apart. The upright fiberglass is drilled at 2" spacings, so you can install a wire U, or make one of hi-tensile wire to keep your fence wire from sliding up or down on the fiberglass post.

The above photo shows how the U Clamps attach to the upright post, as well as the wire U clips to hold the fence wire into position. We used Gripples for end attachment and tensioning. The Gripples can be reclaimed after this temporary fence is moved later. For line posts we used 1/2" X 4' fiberglass post (for economy and temporary use) with some Powerflex Posts at dips and ridges.

The photo above is a Rock Anchor before it is driven into the ground. The base plate of the EZ End has a slot for the pin to go through, then a bolt  holds it into place. The Rock Anchor body is driven into the ground so that the base plate is securely on the ground. The steel spikes are then driven through the slots on the anchor at angles to each other. When driven home, it makes for a substantial anchor. I believe that a similar arrangement is also used for mobile home tie downs. These can be used in very rocky and hard soils. (we've even used them on asphalt at trade shows)

The photo above shows the EZ End mounted on a rock auger after the spikes are driven in and a bolt inserted into the top pin for final anchoring.  I do suggest using a 1/4 x 20 bolt here with washers. A friend of mine, not to mention any names, (david) used a piece of wire here and was sorry for it.  I also usually leave a little pin protruding out as it makes for an easy quick removal........but the other day I punctured a tire on one, so I may start driving them in further!

EZ Ends work great for Gateways in  permanent or portable systems.

This gateway, above, is in a 90 degree corner of an interior fence.

One of Gary's young Highland heifers coming up to investigate. These EZ ends were used for a gateway. PolyBraid was used with our new # EGH handles. The handle hooks just attach to the fence wire on this one. He charged this fence with a Stafix 2.3 (12V) Carry Box energizer. With about a mile and a half of wire it's putting out 7.8KV at the beginning and 9.5KV at the end. All of the connections and tensioning were done with Medium Gripples. It was a breeze to put up.

As I mentioned earlier, the fence in this photo group, was built as a temporary system. It could however be a permanent one.  It is set back about 30+ feet from the old existing perimeter fence to allow for a dozer to clean out the old one. Being an impatient person, and wanting to get some critters on this grass, I built this fence with a short term in mind.  I could have used Powerflex posts, but they would have been harder to remove later. With the 1/2" sunguard fiberglass posts, they will be easy to remove - and I can also use them for additional temporary cross fences in the future. These posts will support 12.5 gauge hi-tensile wire very well. These clips shown may look a little unorthodox, but they work extremely well for me. This area also has a large deer and turkey population, and these clips get a good bite into the posts and do not come off very easily from deer traffic. To install, you simply pinch them together and slide down the post to the desired height. On this system I did use PowerFlex Posts at all the dips and ridges, as well as about every 400 feet on some longer runs of fence. It was an easy fence to build and went up really quick, using the EZ ends for corners and gateways.
