**Introducing

New Zealand made hi-tensile wire**
It is a Hi-span 4 Life Product manufactured in New Zealand using new technology to create a wire that is stronger and lasts longer. That means it has a heavier 260 gram Zinc / Aluminum coating providing 4 times the life of galvanized wire. It has a 1360# minimum breaking strength and with vanadium added it makes it more bendable (malable) without losing strength. It is a high quality wire for a reasonable price. It is coiled via "drop coil" process, and although, it may not look as tightly coiled as some US brands, our New Zealand friends and customers now living in the US swear that they had less back lashes and smoother payout of the New Zealand wire than they do with the US wire.
To better understand how the new technology works , let's first compare it to galvanized wire which has a 100% zinc coating on the steel wire. The zinc coating protects the wire in two ways. First, it provides a protective barrier over the steel because it corrodes much more slowly than does he bare wire. However, it does eventually corrode forming white oxide on the surface. Second, but most importantly, zinc also provides protection even if the coating is damaged. With a zinc coating, when a scrape or cut in the wire exposes the steel, the zinc surround that bare steel will protect that damaged area. The zinc corroes in place of the nearb bare steel. This is because zinc is more reactive than steel, so the elements that cause corrosion attack the zinc first. Zinc aluminum alloy technology used for "4 Life Wire" provides the best of both worlds - aluminum that quickly forms a protective oxide to slow corrosion, and zinc that protects the bare steel if it gets damaged. Blended together, they give you a coating that offers outstanding long-term resistance to corrowion. This wire is stronger, more workable, and will last longer.
Hispan 4 life, which has a heavier 260 gram Zinc/Aluminum coat-weight, provides 4 times the life of galvanised wire. Manufactured for marine coastal and other high corrosion areas, it is especially suitable for thermal/industrial areas as well the horticulture /viticulture industries where copper/sulphur rich sprays are used. 100% manufactured in New Zealand, contain vanadium for better workability and comply with the Wiremark standard.
It may not seem that we can bring in a better wire - all the way around the world - and keep the price reasonable, but we can !

Breaking strengths of the above wires are: TheWSA wire = 1358#. The New Zealand WNZ wire = 1360# and the WM45 (14 gauge) = 1150#.
General notes: When selecting wire, your method of joining is a decisive factor. If you work your connections with crimp sleeves, you can use the higher psi wires. However, if you plan on hand tying your connections - the lesser psi wires will handle better for you. Most of the wire in the farm store chains will likely be either 170,000 or 200,000 psi. You might want to check the label if it has one. There are maximum and minimum psi ratings. Most 170K wire is a maximum of 170,000, so it will range from about 140,000 up to 170,000. It will hand tie easily but will not be as strong as our 180,000 psi. Our 180K wire is a minimum of 180K and it hand knots well for us. Although the 200,000 psi wire can be hand knotted - it is much stiffer and will wear you out if doing it all day. We have been very happy with the performance of the 180K wire here in the Midwest, however out west most prefer the 200K. We have deer here - they have elk there.
