How to make a splice in hi-tensile wire
Below is the best way I know of for splicing two pieces of 12.5 gauge wire together, such as when one coil runs out and you need to attach another. This splice also pulls thru the grass – snag free.

To do this joint, use a C2L long crimp. This crimp sleeve has a holding power of 1500 pounds, so it is as strong as the wire itself. Run the wires thru the crimp sleeve with about 12 inches of overlap. The C2L will let you put two bites (crimps) on with your tool. Go ahead and do the first one, then the second one, leaving your crimp tool attached in the closed position. Leaving the tool on the crimp sleeve will allow you to make the twist on the wire. Bend a handle into the wire end, and make your wraps. Do a reverse twist and it will snap off cleanly. This method of joining with the wire wraps is a snag free splice and pulls thru the grass easily.
Below are also a couple of other hand tied knots that work well and have strength. One is called a Reef Knot and the other a Figure 8 Knot. You will have to get some scrap pieces of wire out and play around with these. They are good knots to know for repairs and splices without tools on hand.

Both of these above knots will work.
The Reef Knot really does look good
when it is done right. And its strong too.
